I am Helen Branum, a life-long resident of Gibson County. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from Union University in 1987 and continued my graduate studies there, receiving a Master of Education and Education Specialist Degree. I hold endorsements in English, Mathematics, Business/Technology, Marketing, and Administration/Supervision.
Currently, I am teaching ACT Math Prep to all juniors. This is a 6 week course in which all aspects of the math portion of the ACT test will be covered. The focus of this course will include: speed, calculator usage, evaluation of problem types, formulas, etc. In addition, I am serving as the facilitator for the SAILS Bridge Math course. Upon completion of the course, seniors will avoid taking non-credit math courses in college to meet their prerequisites. During T2 and T3, I will be teaching Advanced Algebra/Trig and Calculus, respectively. I also serve as the Director of Project T.E.A.M., a 7th year CCLC afterschool program with sites at TES, TRMS, and PHS. With this program, students in grades 3-12 benefit from afterschool care, tutoring, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities. During my teaching career, I have been instrumental in writing and managing several federal and state grants valued at over one million dollars.
My husband, Barry, and two of our children, Haley and Joe Garrett, live on a family farm near Trenton. Brittany, our oldest daughter, lives in Jackson and teaches Math in the Jackson Madison County School System.
